The Minister of Development Dimitris Sioufas addressed the conference and said the government will vote on a new law enhancing growth and prosperity for Greek SMEs as well as making them more competitive in the Greek and European market emphazising that the gov’t plans to finance franchising and will support the franchising to enter the services sector as is currently limited to products.

There are 7,152 different franchise systems in EU with 70% of them being home grown, there are 500 franchises in Greece while there are only 1,500 in the United States.

Rolf Gerhard Kirst, Master franchisee Uniglobe Travel in Germany, and Vice Chairman of the European Franchise Federation& Member of the Executive Board said that Southeastern European markets are important for European franchisors because those markets just begin to bloom, especially for those countries that are close to become EU members and there is also a huge backlog demand for entrepreneurship growth.

On the other hand, franchising is important for SEE markets because it will create jobs, support the SME market and provide opportunities for growth as there is great demand in almost all sectors, the introduction of new ideas and franchisors’ know-how will help in enhancing growth as there is no saturation and the lack of experience will welcome innovative ideas.
