Biz Journal:

Franchisors from across the country and Canada have the Phoenix market in their crosshairs for new stores that range from salons and juice bars to IT shops and quick-service restaurants.

Their plans for the Valley mean more than new options to satisfy the appetite of a growing population. Franchising means jobs and economic impact, not just in terms of money generated inside a new business, but also the ripple effect franchisees have when they spend money to support their operations. One is Tossed Franchise Corp. of New York, a made-to-order salad restaurant concept. Company executives say they want to get up to 12 stores in the Valley’s restaurant mix during the next two years as part of a 200-location expansion for several big U.S. markets.

Eric Schmitt, company president, said the formula for selecting the market was simple: The Valley’s population is exploding. So far, deals are in the pipeline for Scottsdale, Chandler and Phoenix locations. “It’s one of the fastest-growing markets in the country,” Schmitt said. “And available real estate makes it very attractive and all quick casual (restaurants are) doing very well there.”
