The Edge Daily:

Cosmo Restaurants Sdn Bhd, the franchisee of Burger King in Malaysia, expects a 20% rise in overall sales to RM48 million in the 2006 fiscal year from RM40 million in 2005.

Its director of operations Khaled Hammam said overall sales this year would be boosted by the introduction of three new products, the Greek Lamb sandwich, Wild Alaskan Salmon Burger and Kofta burger.

He said the new products would contribute to about 12% rise in overall sales in the current fiscal year.

Khaled said the company would open another five drive-through outlets in Peninsular Malaysia this year at a cost of about RM1.2 million each. There are currently 21 Burger King outlets in Peninsular Malaysia, five of which are drive-through outlets.

He also told Financial Daily that Burger King recorded 2.8 million customers last year, with an average spending of RM15 per customer. He expects that to increase by 8% to three million customers this year.

Khaled said the food and beverage industry was worth more than RM1 billion last year, with Burger King having a market share of 2%.

“Our focus this year is to increase our sales through marketing strategies and opening new outlets
