DETROIT — Little Caesar Enterprises, the pizza chain at the core of the Ilitch family’s food, sports and entertainment empire, is embarking on an expansion binge to add hundreds of new stores in markets from New York, Philadelphia and New Jersey to Atlanta, Portland, St. Louis and Washington D.C.
The plan is a bid to re-establish Little Caesars as a growth brand in the world of fast food and franchising. Little Caesars is the Little Caesar chain’s brand.

The company has about 2,000 pizza outlets, 60% fewer than its peak of 5,000 in the early 1990s, but it has boosted its per-store sales in recent years with value-priced products such as Hot-N-Ready $5 pepperoni pizzas.
Now, Scrivano said Monday, the company is preparing to push into the Northeast. Little Caesar has no stores in Philadelphia and only a handful in New York City and New Jersey. it’s also looking for growth in the Atlanta area, which has only five Little Caesars outlets “but could support 100,” Scrivano said.

In recent months, Little Caesar has increased its headquarters staff about 10%, hiring new franchise licensing advisers and other managers to support the growth push. It’s looking for a vice president to oversee the construction of hundreds of new stores nationwide.
