Papa John’s International has had its ups and downs, but it’s in for a real roller-coaster ride now.

The Louisville pizza maker has reached a sponsorship and marketing agreement with Six Flags Inc. that will make Papa John’s the exclusive pizza of the amusement-park chain.

Six Flags will sell Papa John’s cheese and pepperoni pizzas in 60 locations in 17 of its 29 North American parks. The list includes those in the Los Angeles and Chicago areas and in the Northeast, markets where Papa John’s has had trouble gaining traction.

That’s one of the primary benefits of the arrangement for Papa John’s, said company spokesman Chris Sternberg.

“It’ll be a good opportunity to get our product in front of customers in markets where we haven’t been as strong in the past,” Sternberg said.

“It won’t be as big an uphill climb introducing our product to the market.”

Six Flags and Papa John’s will have cross promotions on their Web sites.
