McThai Speeds Up Outlet Expansion

Bankok Post:

The local operator of McDonald’s restaurants will speed up its expansion plans by opening around 50 more outlets over the next five years. ”We will be opening McDonald’s in the next five years at a faster rate than we have done in the last five years,” said Rob Chiasson, the newly appointed managing director of McThai Co.

The expansion plans first came to light when US-based McDonald’s Corp bought its stake back from Dej Bulsuk, who introduced McDonald’s to Thailand in 1985, two years ago.

Mr Chiasson said that over the past two or three years, the Thai operation had followed the policy of McDonald’s in the United States, aimed more at generating sales from existing outlets, not increasing the number of restaurants.

However, this year the company will keep investing in the Thai marketplace by opening new branches to make it easier for customers to obtain McDonald’s products.

”The market potential in Thailand is very huge. On average, Thai consumers dine out about 40 times in one month,” said Mr Chiasson.
