Washington Biz Journals:

Famous Five Dining hopes to go from five to 13. The Franklin-based franchisee of Famous Dave’sbarbecue eateries plans to open a restaurant every nine months until it hits 13.

Famous Dave’s restaurants run by Famous Five are in Hermitage, Cool Springs, Knoxville, Chattanooga and Florence, Ala. The franchisee group - made up of the husband-and-wife teams Mike and Tamara Lister and Doug and Laurel Renegar - is building a sixth restaurant on Industrial Boulevard in Smyrna set to open in June. The 5,800-square-foot facility will seat 216 and employ 100.

“We just see it as a big growth area,” says Famous Five partner Tamara Lister. “Going over to Smyrna just made sense.”

Like its Cool Springs counterpart, the Smyrna Famous Dave’s will have the appearance of a lodge. It will not, though, have a lodge room for private parties because its owners want to bolster their booming catering business with plenty of storage space.

Subsequent Famous Five eatery sites haven’t been pinned down. The five-year-old group’s territory covers most of Tennessee and stretches into the Raleigh-Durham, N.C., area as well as the northern half of Alabama.
