KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (Bernama) — Franchise International Malaysia 2006 (FIM 2006), the largest franchising exhibition event in South East Asia, is expecting 10,000-12,000 visitors and 120 exhibitors during its four days of conference and exhibition this August 3-6.

Chairman of Malaysian Franchise Association, Datuk Mukhriz Tun Mahathir said prominent speakers from local and international franchise players will be invited to present their papers on current franchise issues.

“Last year’s event drew participants from 31 countries worldwide. The statistics show that more than 70 percent of the visitors have great prospects to take up a franchise in the future,” he said during the launch of FIM 2006, here Thursday.

The FIM 2006 is a one-stop-centre which would bring together key players in the industry including the franchisors, master franchisees, franchisees, support institutions comprising government agencies, banks and funders, consultants, premise developers and potential franchise players.

Mukhriz said FIM 2006 is in line with the government aspiration to make Malaysia a hub for franchises in the South East Asian region.

“We are also vigorously trying to get greater international attention through various trade missions and participation in various international franchising exhibitions,” he said.

“We have explored Brussel, Tokyo, Dubai, Shanghai and soon will be in Jakarta, Beijing, Manila, Vietnam and Bangkok,” he added.

Mukhriz said the move is not merely to promote Malaysian franchise, or FIM, but also attract foreign investment into the country.

Deputy Secretary General (Development), of the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development, Musa Muhamad said FIM 2006 would become an avenue for domestic franchises to penetrate the global market.
