Entrepreneur James Oberg is enjoying a good start to his Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers franchise.
The first Freddy’s opened just a little over four weeks ago at The Forum at Olympia Parkway, a retail center located off of Loop 1604 and Interstate Highway 35 North on the far Northeast Side. And the customer-reception so far has been phenomenal, he says. Wichita, Kan.-based Freddy’s signature item is the frozen custard. The restaurants also feature hot dogs, shoestring fries and steakburgers. The Forum Freddy’s is now selling, on average, about 600 gallons of custard a week, Oberg says. The store is also serving up some 13,000 steak patties, 9,000 buns and 3,500 hot dogs, on average, each week.
While he declined to divulge specific sales figures, Oberg does say that the restaurant is doing well above its projected budget of $30,000 in net sales per week.
Buoyed by this success, Oberg is now charting an aggressive course for the chain — starting with store number two in New Braunfels. That location is set to open for business by late summer or early fall, he says.
