Nearly three months after opening, Jumbles has stumbled in a bid to replace a prolific brand pastry.
Jumbles Dough Factory and Coffee Bar outlets took over eight Houston-area Krispy Kreme locations in March. Lone Star Doughnuts Ltd. had operated all local Krispy Kreme franchises since 1998.
But Lone Star’s franchise agreement with Winston Salem, N.C.-based Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. ended on Feb. 9 as part of a settlement agreement involving disputes between the two companies.
Krispy Kreme stores began operating as Jumbles Dough Factory and Coffee Bar locations on March 8.
Dan Brinton, head of operations for Lone Star, said at the time that the change in concept signified a “fresh start” for the franchisee and that all 120 employees would remain on staff at Jumbles.
Three months later, the shift in branding and marketing strategy doesn’t appear to be clicking.
Many Jumbles locations are no longer doing regular business. Suppliers say they are unable to reach Lone Star executives.
