FAST FOOD giant McDonald’s has launched a PR offensive to encourage parents to think positively about their children working for the multinational.
It is publicising an academic study by Adrian Furnham, Professor of Psychology at University College London, of young McDonald’s employees, their working friends, parents, partners, managers and teachers.
The study follows the recent launch of a bold poster campaign to address negative perceptions of work at the company which features the strapline “Not bad for a McJob”.
Professor Furnham found 90% of parents think working at McDonald’s is good for their children; 72% have seen a positive change in their child since working at McDonald’s; and 60% see their child staying with McDonald’s long-term to climb the career ladder.
Ron Mounsey, franchisee of McDonald’s Carmarthen said, “The evidence we’re hearing from mums and dads is really powerful. They want the best for their children and witness their personal growth first-hand. “They are sending a clear message that service and hospitality sector work has real, proven benefits for young people. I can wholeheartedly endorse this view, as I’ve had the privilege of seeing many young people develop and thrive while working in our restaurants.
