Fiji Times:

INTERNATIONAL fast food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken has started up the worldwide Pizza Hut franchise in Fiji, five years after KFC opened its doors here.

A Pizza Hut outlet will open for business on Thursday at the newly-built KFC complex in Laucala Beach Estate.

A senior KFC executive confirmed there were plans to open other Pizza Hut outlets in the country.

Meanwhile, a second KFC outlet also opened for business at the Laucala Beach complex on Saturday.

The outlet’s general manager Saiyad Ali said the new shop had a drive-thru - a feature that KFC’s central city outlet in Thompson Street didn’t have.

Mr Ali said the drive-thru made it easier for customers.

We thought of having the drive thru as customers were demanding for it. In our shop in Suva there is no drive through. Customers have to park in front of the shop in the parking lots, Mr Ali said.

He said the Laucala Beach Estate location was chosen because there were no fast food restaurants nearby and the population in the area was the largest in the city.

Nasinu has got the largest population in this area. There wasn’t any good fast food restaurant around this place so we just tried to cater for the people of Nasinu and nearby areas, he said. Mr Ali said 60 staff had been trained for the past two months to form a customer friendly team that would cater for both drive-thru and eat-in customers.
