Doug Miller’s business isn’t cooking. But for the Austin developer of Vancouver, Wash.-based Papa Murphy’s International Inc., that means everything’s right on track.
Miller recently opened Austin’s first Papa Murphy’s Take ‘n’ Bake Pizza location at 2110 Slaughter Lane in the Tanglewood Village shopping center. And with big plans for the Austin market, Miller’s franchise business is on the verge of mushrooming. The commercial developer, who also owns four Papa Murphy’s franchises in Idaho, has signed a contract to bring 24 more pizza shops to the Central Texas area within the next five years.
And with an initial investment for each store of about $225,000, Miller and partners Joe Gaitan and Doug Riccolo stand to invest more than $5 million in local Papa Murphy’s franchises.
The second Papa Murphy’s store is set to open at MoPac Expressway and Parmer Lane in early July, and Miller already has leases signed in Round Rock, Cedar Park and Leander.
Though the $25 million parent company ranked 10th in gross sales in Pizza Today’s 2005 top 100 pizza companies list, the take-and-bake concept is new to Central Texas.
Papa Murphy’s stores make their pizzas fresh and wrap them to go for customers to cook at home. The stores don’t even have ovens.
