Cold Stone Creamery, a U.S. ice cream chain, would launch its first South Korean store in central Seoul this week, restaurant operator CJ Foodville Corp. said Thursday.

After the launch of the first store Saturday, CJ Foodville aims to open four more Cold Stone Creamery stores by the end of the year to tap the nation’s 250 billion won (US$263.3 million) premium ice cream market.

“Our target customer group will be people in their 20s and professional women,” the head of the company Chung Jin-ku said in a statement.

Cold Stone Creamery opened its first franchise store in 1995, and now has a total of about 1,400 stores in the United States and Japan, CJ Foodville said.

CJ Foodville is the restaurant operating arm of CJ Group, a South Korean food and media conglomerate.
