Panera To Add 33 New Bakery-Cafés

Panera Bread Co. said Monday that it formed additional area development agreements with five of its franchisees for a total of 33 new bakery-cafés.

The agreements with the following franchisees will bring new Panera units to New York, Florida, New Jersey and North Carolina:
Doherty Breads LLC, which currently operates # 12 bakery-cafés in Long Island, N.Y., which has existing agreements to open 31 bakery-cafés in the Long Island and Queens, N.Y., markets, signed a new agreement for 12 additional bakery-cafés in the Staten Island and Brooklyn markets, the first of which is to open in 2007, and a new agreement for five additional bakery-cafés in Long Island market. The group is headed by franchisee Ed Doherty and operations partner Greg George.
# Covelli Family LP, which currently operates 26 bakery-cafés in the Orlando, Fla., market, signed a new agreement for an additional eight bakery-cafés in their current market. The group is headed by franchisee Al Covelli and operations partner Gavin Ford.
