Smh:
THE McDonald’s world empire has earmarked Australia’s latest innovation, a trial dinner menu, for a global roll-out with a team of senior McDonald’s executives due to visit here next month.
President and chief operating officer Michael Roberts, possibly accompanied by marketing chief Mary Dillon, from head office in Oakbrook, Illinois, will be able to judge for themselves how the four new additions to McDonald’s rapidly expanding menu are faring at the end of August.
The entourage might also be here for the August 29 launch of the new healthier Happy Meal, Pasta Zoo, a pasta-based menu complete with kiddie-sized tongs that allow kids to dip the foods in a sauce, as well as a free toy. That menu is also being watched carefully by head office, which has consistently looked to Australia for innovation.
Salads Plus, a menu of salads, muffins and yoghurts, and the McCafe coffee stores - both of which originated in Australia - have been adopted by other McDonald’s around the world.
The four dinner meals - lemon grass chicken, beef rendang, beef bolognese, and orange, lime and ginger chicken - begin their three-month trial in 19 stores in the Hunter region this week.
But, according to NSW and ACT regional manager Raylee Joyce, the “My Dinner Now” menu has already been earmarked for worldwide release after its national Australian launch next year. “The world has been waiting for us. We are a market leader and globally you will see a whole heap of stuff happening. The plan is for the world.
