The Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA) hopes that its annual event, Franchise International Malaysia 2006 (FIM 2006), will offer opportunities for franchise-related companies to review and plan their activities so as to actively promote their goods and services.

The event is jointly organised by the MFA and the Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Ministry.

MFA chairman Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said the response to FIM 2006 had been “very encouraging”.

“FIM 2006 encompasses an exhibition, a three-day conference and seminar, but most importantly, it will be a stage for entrepreneurs to form strategic alliances, Mukhriz said at a press conference in Putra World Trade Centre yesterday.

The conference is aimed at enabling experts to share their industry knowledge with participants and allow participants to network and to discuss important issues that affect the industry. “The event is akin to a one-stop centre which will bring together key players in the industry, including the franchisors, master franchisees, franchisees, support institutions comprising government agencies, banks and funders, consultants, premise developers and potential franchise players, Mukhriz said, adding that MFA estimated that up to 12,000 people would attend and visit FIM 2006.

Organising committee chairman and MFA vice-chairman Izham Yusoff said a total of 107 franchising companies from Australia, Italy, Switzerland, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, the US and Britain as well as Malaysia would take part this year.
