THE Franchise International Malaysia 2006 (FIM 2006) has raked in RM34 million worth of business deals over the last two days.

New franchisees signed up a total of RM16.6 million worth of business deals during the first day of FIM 2006. This is the first time business transaction figures were announced by the organiser since the exhibition was introduced some 12 years ago.

However, at press time, organiser Malaysia Franchise Association has yet to conclude the breakdown category of the deals made.

Organising committee chairman Izham Yusoff said about 30 per cent of the transactions were international business deals, which included home-grown franchise business taken up by foreign parties.

“This year, visitors were more aware of the industry. They knew what they wanted from the exhibition and dealt directly with the relevant party,” he said in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Izham said the encouraging business deal figure also showed that there is growing interest in the franchise industry here. He expects total business transaction by the end of FIM 2006 to be around RM40 million.

The exhibition had attracted almost 3,000 visitors on the first day. The four-day exhibition, which ended yesterday, showcased more than 100 exhibitors, which included local and international franchise businesses, financial institutions and trade partners.
