Potential franchisees, franchisors and others interested in the world of franchising can learn about the industry at this fall’s Franchise Management Certificate Program staged by the University of Texas at El Paso’s Franchise Center.
The annual program will bring together students, franchise professionals and people hoping to enter the business for a 2å-day conference in October.
Carolyn Gough, the director of the Franchise Center, said the program shows participants how to find the right franchise.
“They want to be able to make intellectual decisions,” she said.
But rather than do six months of research, potential franchisees can get all the information they need in one seminar, she said.
The program costs $875, but, Gough said, 11 needs-based scholarships are available to students and adults.
One of the scholarship participants at last year’s conference was Gabriela Ballard, who was then in her final year as a criminal justice major at UTEP.
“I recommend (the franchise program) for everyone, even if you’re not interested in purchasing a franchise,” Ballard said.
She said she made contacts with people trying to buy and sell franchises and learned that not every franchise is for everyone.
The speakers this year will include high-ranking executives from ExxonMobil and Pepsico, Gough said. They will talk about the future of the U.S. labor force and what to expect in the industry’s future, she said.
