Biz Journals:

The first Sonic restaurant of its kind in the Houston area has opened on the ground level of the new University of Houston parking garage.

Unlike the conventional Sonic drive-in service, the newly structured counter service will allow indoor and outdoor seating for customers in a 1950’s-style diner as well as “to go” service. The establishment has similar locations in Oklahoma City and Dallas, but this is the first restaurant of its kind in a university setting.

The facility, located at Calhoun and University Drive, is open to the public and will allow free parking for up to 30 minutes.

Houston-based Airport Express Management Ltd. is operating the restaurant and is staffing the restaurant with University of Houston students as well as local high school students.

Aaron Smith, president of Airport Express Management, describes the company as a non-conventional franchise developer.
