Tough conditions for Pizza Hut dragged down Restaurant Brands’ second quarter sales, but speculation the pizza business could be sold is being dismissed.
A report last week said it was understood that Hell Pizza had approached Restaurant Brands about the future of Pizza Hut, and that unnamed Australian interests were said to have funding to back Hell in acquiring Pizza Hut.
But today Restaurant Brands chief executive Vicki Salmon said the report was “drivel”.
“We are not in discussions with Hell Pizza. I have never met anyone in Hell Pizza, neither has anyone from my board,” she told National Radio.
“We also own the market franchise here in New Zealand for Pizza Hut so there are no major changes in that area at all.”
Restaurant Brands today reported total sales for the 16 weeks to September 11, down 0.5 per cent compared to the same period a year ago to $97.7 million.
New Zealand operations produced sales of $88.5 million, down 0.9 per cent, while sales in Australia were up $0.3 million largely due to movements in the exchange rate.
