Tanzanian Prime Minister Edward Lowassa Friday called on Vietnamese businesses to invest in his country and promised to facilitate their investments.Lowassa, who began a five-day visit to Vietnam Monday, attended the Vietnam-Tanzania Economic Forum in southern metro Ho Chi Minh City where he said he was “excited about the potential for cooperation between the two countries’ businesses.

He called on Vietnamese enterprises to expand franchising and investments in Tanzania, especially in agriculture, to take advantage of the East African country’s low labor costs and incentives for investors.

“Tanzania’s strong points are its natural resources and market while Vietnam has the advantages of technology and finance. These are good conditions for the two countries to cooperate for mutual benefit, he said.

At the forum, many Vietnamese businesses voiced concerns about the risk of doing business in Tanzania.

They cited an incident last year in which a Vietnamese cargo ship was detained in Tanzania for more than a year because of an unrelated trade dispute.
