Build-A-Bear Signs Franchisee For Germany

Build-A-Bear Workshop Inc. said late Friday that it signed Choose Germany A/S as a new international franchisee.Choose Germany A/S is a subsidiary of Choose Holding A/S of Denmark, which also holds the franchise rights to Build-A-Bear Workshop in Denmark, Sweden and Norway. The group, led by John Kristensen and Soren Nielsen, currently has five stores in Denmark, one in Sweden and is scheduled to open the first store in Norway late next month, according to a release.

Build-A-Bear Workshop’s chairman and CEO, Maxine Clark, said in a statement, “Germany is a large and exciting market for Build-A-Bear Workshop and we are fortunate to be working with our highly experienced and successful franchisee partners.” Company officials said in the release that Choose Germany A/S plans to open two stores in Hamburg, Germany, later this year — in the Alstertal-Einkaufszentrum shopping center and the Europa Passage arcade.

St. Louis-based Build-A-Bear Workshop (NYSE: BBW) is a retailer where customers can create their own customized stuffed animals. It currently operates more than 255 stores in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Ireland, with additional franchise stores in Europe, Asia and Australia.
