Gap inc. is deepening its commitment to Southeast Asia.
The $16 billion San Francisco retailer has expanded its franchise agreement with F J Benjamin to open Gap and Banana Republic stores in Indonesia. F J Benjamin and Gap signed an exclusive contract to open franchised Gap and Banana Republic stores in Malaysia and Singapore in January 2006 — Gap’s first franchise agreement. Gap has since signed agreements to open franchised stores in United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman.
F J Benjamin could open up to 20 retail locations in the Asian archipelago by 2010. Its first Gap and Banana Republic stores in Malaysia and Singapore are scheduled to open this fall.
