CKE Restaurants, the parent company of Carl’s Jr., opened the first of 50 eateries in Russia.

Two St. Petersburg eateries debuted over the weekend and are being operated by franchisee Bright Star, CKE reported today. The Russia-based franchisee has an agreement with CKE to open 48 more Carl’s Jr. restaurants in the region over the next eight years.

“This is a dynamic, emerging market with a strong appetite for western food, and the premium hamburgers offered at Carl’s Jr. will be a perfect fit,” said Ned Lyerly, senior vice president of global franchise development for CKE Restaurants in Carpinteria. CKE also has corporate offices in Anaheim.
