Thirteen Hooters restaurant franchises, including one on Main Street in Hyannis, filed for bankruptcy protection Friday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Boston.R.J. Fitz, L.P., of Concord, was listed as the debtor filling for protection under Chapter 11 of the federal bankruptcy code. Hooters of Cape Cod in Hyannis was included, along with franchises in Boston, New York, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.
Chapter 11 allows businesses temporary protection from creditors while they attempt to come up with a plan to pay their debts. Businesses can have 30 days relief, or longer, if they request an extension.
But none of that made any sense to Jason Weaver, the general manager of the Hyannis Hooters, who said his restaurant was not going out of business.
”Far from it,” he said yesterday. ”I just talked to my district manager and he never mentioned it.”
Weaver said Hooters Hyannis has 25 employees and did better this year than last year.
”There’s not many restaurants that can say that,” he said.
