An Orlando-based sub sandwich startup is on the cusp of inking several franchise deals that will allow the chain to expand beyond the region.

The expansion plans for the sub chain, called U.S. Hero’s, come on the heels of the launch of the restaurant’s first location on West Colonial Drive in Orlando.

Peter Weed, who is behind the sub concept, said he is very close to signing agreements to develop U.S. Hero’s franchises in the Atlanta and Boston areas. Weed said he’s also looking at the Memphis, Tenn., and Dallas markets.

“We’re going nationwide by the first of the year,” Weed said.

Already, U.S. Hero’s plans to open five more locations in Central Florida. The next opening is slated for Orange City this week. Others are planned to open over the next couple of months in Lake Mary, Altamonte Springs, the Festival Bay Mall and near the University of Central Florida.

With the landscape already saturated with sub chains such as Jacksonville-based Firehouse Subs, Subway and Quiznos, Weed understands his fledgling chain will need to offer more than your basic sandwich to stand out.
