The craze for healthy food seems not to have affected McDonald’s bottom line in Ireland, with a 10% rise in profits reported in 2005.

Newly filed accounts for McDonald’s Restaurants of Ireland, which is the holding company for both owned and franchise outlets, show pre-tax profits for the year to end December 2005 increased from €7.2 million to just over €8m.

Sales for the year, which had fallen in 2004, increased in 2005 to €76.2m from €70m.

The company did not say if the sales growth was achieved from its existing restaurants or by the opening of new outlets.

McDonald’s has 74 outlets in Ireland, including 50 owned by franchisees.
