Customers of LA Weight Loss Centers Inc. will be able to get some money back as part of a deal worked out with the state Attorney General’s office.

According to state officials, LA Weight Loss Centers of Horsham, Pa., made “unsubstantiated health claims,” and agreed to pay $50,000 that will be used for customer refunds. In addition, the state said it reached a settlement with a related company, NWM Inc. of Lake Oswego, Ore., which did business as LA Weight Loss and agreed to a $40,000 settlement.

According to state officials, LA Weight Loss Center customers were told they could get half of their enrollment fee refunded if they reached certain weight loss goals. But the company, the state added, didn’t make it clear that customers had to buy protein bars from the company to be eligible for the rebate and that the cost of the bars was more than the rebate.

Customers who want more information about the settlement or who want to apply for a refund can visit www.atg.wa.gov or call 1-800-551-4636.
