The franchisees of Paktel on Saturday urged the Supreme Court to take suo moto action against injustice by Paktel that has declared its franchise holders as retailers.

The franchise holders of Paktel fear that the amounts they had deposited to acquire the franchise would disappear as the company is in the process of winding up its business in Pakistan. Fuelling the fears of franchisees, the company has unilaterally changed the agreement declaring franchisees as retailers.

According to Paktel franchisees in Hyderabad, they have invested five to ten million rupees in Paktel franchise and the company seems to be reluctant to acknowledge their right of financial compensation.

The Paktel franchisees addressing a news conference at Hyderabad Press Club said that they have appealed to the chief justice of Supreme Court to direct the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to take action against Paktel for its wrongdoings with franchisees.

According to franchisees, they have filed cases in various district courts asking the PTA to support them in getting compensation for financial losses.

They also gave deadline of 72 hours to solve their problems and provide them compensation, otherwise they would suspend customer services across Sindh except Karachi.
