Palm Beach Tan has bought Desert Sun Tanning Salons for an undisclosed amount, Palm Beach said Monday.
Farmers Branch-based indoor tanning salon chain Palm Beach said Desert Sun Tanning Salons has 55 franchised locations, with an additional 30 salons in development on the West Coast. It generates more than $20 million in revenue annually.
Steve Berkman, vice president of franchising for Palm Beach, said the acquisition gives Palm Beach another market where the company can be a dominant player.
“In Dallas-Fort Worth, we’ve probably over the past 15 to 16 years become the dominant player … they’re in the same situation in Seattle,’ Berkman said, adding that about 40 of Desert Sun’s 55 locations are in the greater Seattle market.
Maple Valley, Wash.-based Desert Sun will operate as a subsidiary of Palm Beach Tan, and will retain the Desert Sun brand. Berkman said the company plans to add 120 Desert Sun locations by 2010.
