Blockbuster has completed the sale of its Taiwan unit to Webs-TV Digital International for an undisclosed amount, a company spokesman said Thursday.
The deal included 89 company-owned and 40 franchise stores.Webs-TV, the largest broadband TV operator in the Chinese market, will continue to operate the stores under the Blockbuster brand as a master fanchisee, said Blockbuster spokesman Randy Hargrove.
Dallas-based Blockbuster announced last week that it was selling its Rhino Video Games chain to Grapevine-based GameStop Corp.
Blockbuster has previously announced that it would explore the sale of non core assets and its remaining international assets, Hargrove said.
“The announcement with Rhino, the announcement with Taiwan, it’s part of previous announcements we had made with regards to reviewing our portfolio,” he said.
