Business is booming for bookshop owner Jan Wright.

The UK-born woman shifted to New Zealand in 2000 after a career in marketing and became involved with an Auckland bookstore called Poppies.

She then decided to franchise the Poppies name and sold the Remuera store to a franchisee. After that, she moved to Cambridge and opened a second Poppies store in late 2004.

Now, the franchise has grown to include stores in Havelock North, Feilding, Gisborne and Hamilton (last month on Casabella Lane).

Ms Wright said the expansion plans won’t stop there.

“We’re looking at about five other sites, including two in the South Island.”

She said the next store to open would be in Wanganui in April, the seventh in the country.
