Dunkin’ Donuts announced Wednesday plans to expand in Asia, and will kick off the expansion with a store opening in Taipei City, Taiwan, today.

The Canton, Mass.-based coffee and doughnut retailer said it recently granted franchise rights to Mercuries & Associates to develop 100 stores in Taiwan over the next 10 years. “Taiwan represents the first step in Dunkin’ Donuts greater China strategy,” said Anthony P. Pavese, Dunkin’ Brands Vice President of International Asia Pacific, in a statement. “We are actively looking for Dunkin’ Donuts partners in China.”

Besides the usual Dunkin’ Donuts menu of coffee and baked goods and iced beverages, the Taiwan location will also serve items that fit local tastes, such as sweet potato, green apple and pineapple doughnuts, and mochi rings — cake doughnuts indigenous to the region.
