FINS are looking up for a Stockport man whose fish tank and aquarium business is heading for a £100,000 turnover.

Robert Jones founded Aquatic Fanatic last summer with the aim of providing fish tanks and aquariums for offices, hotels and homes.

Already the company has been commissioned to provide bespoke fish tanks, including a 100-gallon tank of tropical fish built into a bar counter.

The business will be expanding this year, taking its reach beyond its base in Manchester and Cheshire. Robert, 45, is also working on plans to turn the idea into a nationwide franchise.

He explains that the business grew out of a childhood passion for tropical fish.

“I’ve been keeping fish since I was eight and went on holiday with my parents to Devon. We stayed in a bed-and-breakfast place with a fish tank in the hall, and the moment we got home I asked for a tank of my own,” he said.

The latest business builds on previous work running a specialist aquatic shop and garden centre at Mottram St Andrews.
