The labels on the racks at Plato’s Closet are all the hottest names among teens and young adults: Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, Lucky, bebe, Sean John and Hollister. A lucky shopper might even stumble upon 7 for All Mankind or Armani Exchange.
But what’s different is that the clothes are ”gently used” and the prices are about 70 percent less than what they would cost at retail. The average price is $9, with the most expensive item typically no more than $30.
Plato’s Closet, which last month opened its second South Florida store in Pembroke Pines, is not your grandmother’s thrift store.
The strip mall store, 12237 Pembroke Rd., looks more like a specialty boutique and the focus is on offering the latest styles in fashion for a trend savvy buyer. The target audience: women and men between 12- and 24-years-old, but you’ll also find plenty of women shoppers between 25-45.
