DOMINO’S Pizza has earmarked some RM2.5 million to open at least five new stores in Malaysia this year, bringing its total outlets to 38.

The five new premises will be established in areas where Domino’s already has a presence. Domino’s existing 33 stores are located in the Klang Valley, Penang, Johor Baru and Seremban.

Of the 33 outlets, 30 are delivery premises while the remaining three are restaurants. The US-based Domino’s master franchise holder in Malaysia, Dommal Food Services Sdn Bhd, had set up 13 new stores in 2006.

“We intend to open at least five new outlets in 2007, focusing on the same areas that we are in,” Dommal general manager Allan Ang told reporters in Kuala Lumpur yesterday at the launch of Domino’s latest offerings.

Domino’s enlarged operations is by virtue of its merger with rival Shakey’s Restaurants in February 2005. The deal had resulted in the planned rebranding of 21 Shakey’s outlets into Domino’s stores.

Earnings wise, Domino’s expects to post double-digit revenue growth this financial year to December 31 2007, helped by increased sales from existing premises and new-store openings.

Ang, however, declined to specify its annual earnings, only indicating that revenue rose some 50 per cent in 2006. Domino’s hires about 1,300 workers of which two thirds are part-timers.
