TOKYO — Fujiya Co apologized Tuesday to its shop owners who were forced to close their outlets due to the confectioner suspending production following revelations it used out-of-date ingredients in cakes and other sweets, but could not tell them exactly when they can resume doing business.
During a meeting with about 310 of its franchise chain owners, Fujiya President Yasufumi Sakurai did not go into details of the time schedule of the resumption, only saying he hopes the company can decide when the owners can reopen their shops “by the end of February.
