Moneymakers: Franchising Consultant Says To Beware Of Fads

‘More and more franchises capitalize on the aging baby boomer market - from medical home care to fitness - as well as handyman businesses and residential cleaning. Also, kid-oriented businesses, including those involved with supplemental education.’

Houston Chronicle:

capitalizing.jpgIf you’re going into business, you can start one from scratch, take over somebody else’s or buy a franchise.

If you’re thinking franchise, you have plenty of choices.

Among the hottest franchise concepts these days are coffeehouses, staffing and business services, niche gyms, in-home personal care and tutoring. Also popular are low-cost and low-overhead franchises and ’semi-absentee’ owner franchises, like carwashes, children’s after-school art programs, and direct mail advertising, which one can run as a side business.

With so many possibilities, some potential franchisees turn to consultants such as Adrienne Leigh of FranNet - the Franchise Connection, a network of franchise consultants with offices in more than 55 cities. FranNet is itself a franchise, and Leigh is the Houston franchisee.

Chronicle reporter David Kaplan asked Leigh about franchising trends and how she advises her clients. Check it out!
