Australia-based Gloria Jean’s Coffees opened yesterday its first store in the capital city of Hanoi, raising the number of its high-end coffee shops in the form of master franchising in Vietnam to two after the first launched in HCMC on January 26.

The world’s second most well-known coffee brand name entered Vietnam with a high focus on well-off coffee lovers among local and foreign business communities, especially those aged between 25 and 35.

Australian ambassador to Vietnam Bill Tweddell, who was present at the coffee shop’s grand opening ceremony at the Vincom City Towers, told guests that the coffee brand is among the world’s best.

Vietnam enjoys a growing reputation as a nation of coffee lovers, Tweddell said, adding that Gloria Jean’s Coffee is one of the world’s best known and successful brands.

“For myself, I am particularly pleased because I have grown to enjoy Vietnamese-style coffee, and now I can enjoy the very best that both countries have to offer right here in Hanoi, he said.

Vietnam is the 25th market all over the world that the Australian firm has come to do business. It will have 3,000 franchised shops worldwide by end-2007, said Nguyen Phi Van, managing director of Viet Lifestyle, which is the master franchisee in Hanoi for the Aussie firm.

Van told the function that Gloria Jean’s Coffee Vietnam, which is also managed by her, plans to have a secondary master franchisee in the country by mid-2007.
