“Are you barking mad?”

I said to the complete stranger, whose doorbell I had just rung.

He looked non-plussed for a moment, but he did have a motif on his shirt “Barking Mad”, and in the kerfuffle of getting inside and past three dogs, all barking mad, no offence was taken.

Sue and Dave Phillips are Barking Mad, franchisees in this neck of the woods for a service which finds holiday homes for dogs.

Founder Lee Southern, realised soon after getting her puppy Dalmatian, Bronte, that sending her to kennels or the mother-in-law while the family was away on holiday were not appealing options.

“So she invented Barking Mad as an alternative,” says Sue, who, before she went BM was a course administrator at The Judge Business School.
