InfoFranchise.co.uk:

Franchise in Mexico was born in 1985, when the first McDonald’s fast food was opened. After 3 months the first Mexican franchise was created: Helados Bing (1989). During the same year the Mexican Franchise Association (A.M.F. - Asociación Mexicana de Franquicia) was founded and the first franchise exhibition took place in Mexico City, counting only 12 exhibitors.

At the end of the ’90s franchise strengthens, counting 400 companies and over 300.000 employees. Nowadays Mexico holds the 11th place in the world for franchise system dimensions, after the United States, Brazil, Canada, Japan, France, Germany, England, Australia, Italy and Spain. The A.M.F. points out an annual turnover of more than 12.000 millions dollar, produced only by franchising.

Such as swift growth would have been impossible without any specific law impacting franchise so, in 1991 the New Law on industrial properties was drawn up, fixing in a concrete way the concept of franchise as commercial model.

The driving sectors are: business consultants, beauty and health institutes, photography and video services.
