With international fast food retailers making a beeline for the city, food-lovers are sure to be spoilt for choice.
The latest one to climb the bandwagon is the UK fast food giant, Dixy’s, which will open its first outlet in the city by the end of the year. The restaurant chain, known for its exclusive chicken delicacies like Chicken Shawarma and Grilled Chicken Tikka Burger, will, however, don a different look in the country. “In India, we will have an extensive menu to cater to all communities. We will serve both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food,? said Mr Amjad Ali, chairman of the group.

The outlets in India will be named Dixy Family Restaurants. The menu will include continental delicacies like pizzas, burgers and salads as well as Indian specialities. Dixy Euro has embarked on a joint venture with the Indian Pan Ban group to launch its outlets in the country. Initially, they are opening around 70 outlets in the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala and ten outlets in Delhi. In the eastern region too, it plans to have about 10 outlets.

“Our first restaurant, built on an area of 6,000-square-feet in Chennai, will be inaugurated soon. Then we will move towards the east by the end of the year and the first outlet will be ready by the end of December or in January,? said Mr Rajat Pandhi, managing director of the joint venture named Dixy Euro.
The company, which works on a franchisee model, is scouting for a master franchisee for the eastern region and work of their first outlet will start by June this year.

The venture will also entail significant investment in creating supply chains and support infrastructure for its retail outlets. “Though most of the investment will come from the franchisee’s end, we ourselves will invest around US$ 3 million as each of our outlets will need capital worth around Rs 1.5 crore,? said Mr Pandhi.
