WOMEN with time constraints are turning to Contours to get in shape with franchisees opening its 30-minute workout studios everywhere busy women need
First opened in Bendigo in 2005, Contours now has 117 fitness studios in NSW, Queensland, WA and Victoria. The brand opens an average of five new gyms every month.
Contours CEO David Hundt said the ideal site for a Contours studio was alongside or near a supermarket.
The company’s target market was women aged from 35 to 55. Most Contours members are busy mums but Mr Hundt said any woman who was time poor and big on convenience was attracted to the concept.
The circuit training workouts take just 29 minutes and combine weight training with cardio exercises and members can jump in to a workout whenever they like.
With music pumping, an instructor moves members on to the next workout station after 45 seconds.
“The instructor motivates you the whole time and makes sure you get a great workout,” Mr Hundt said.
Mr Hundt, who has been at the helm of the company since its introduction to Australia, put Contours’ success down to a number of key points which differentiate it from its competitors in the fitness industry.
“Contours is all about offering a non-intimidating environment for our members,” Mr Hundt said.
Contours studios were equipped with machines using weight stacks to generate positive and negative resistance to burn muscle, increase metabolism and burn calories instead of the hydraulic equipment used in most gyms’ circuit training programs. “Members see results in much less time than with the hydraulic equipment offered by our competitors,” Mr Hundt said.
Women quickly reached their maximum capacity when they used the hydraulic equipment and soon no longer got results from their workouts, he said.
Contours also offers a 30-day weight loss plan which focuses on modifying attitudes to eating and allows members to eat well.
