What is the historical roots of franchising? And how the and when the franchising concept developed?

Joint ventures were invented in England in the 19th century.

The first corporations were formed shortly after, also in England and soon after in the US. (A corporation is nothing but a public joint venture.)

The first franchise was Kentucky Fried Chicken - KFC.

    Franchising goes bach way back then, centuries before KFC. Franchising started in France in the early 1400 I believe. Of course, at the time, they didn’t have UFOCs…. lol
