Panago, the leading pizza chain in western Canada, is betting its dough on the highly competitive Ontario market for takeout food.
The family-owned company opens its first Toronto store today as part of a wider move into a province where the older, better-known Pizza Pizza chain reigns supreme.
Panago, which already has five restaurants in suburban locations outside Toronto, says it believes there’s room for up to 150 in Ontario. That would double the company’s existing footprint of 159 stores, mostly in B.C. and other western provinces, over an unspecified time frame.
‘We have a successful track record,’ said Sean DeGregorio, the company’s chief executive officer for the past 6 years. ‘Last year was our best year ever. System-wide sales were more than $120 million and we had the highest ever operating income for franchisees.’
The privately held company doesn’t provide further financial details, he said. More.
