Krispy Kreme’s parent company has received a city license to reopen a store in east Mesa but is not saying when it will open that store or if it is also looking at other locations.
Heather Gray, a city spokeswoman, said the city was told the store at 6626 E. Superstition Springs Blvd. would open May 6.
But Brian Little, director of communications for Krispy Kreme Doughnut Inc., said, “Krispy Kreme is interested in having a presence in the Greater Phoenix area, and Mesa is one of the cities we are considering. However, it is too early in the process to share information regarding a potential opening.” All eight Krispy Kreme stores in the state, including six in the Phoenix area, closed in August after the franchise holder, the Rigel Corp. of Omaha, Neb., went bankrupt.
This new store will be operated by the company, according to its license application.
