Nutrition is being sacrificed for convenience at many of Melbourne’s CBD businesses.
Rather than providing healthy sandwiches or salads for staff lunches, increasing numbers of companies are opting to have pizzas delivered instead.
Orders are often placed up to two weeks ahead and in extreme cases businesses are spending up to $250 a day on pizzas delivered straight to the boardroom.
Domino’s Carlton and St Kilda franchisee Craig Birchall says Fridays are peak days. One company had ordered about $250 of pizzas a day over the past 3 weeks. Mr Birchall said health-conscious customers were able to customise their pizzas.
However nutritionist Shane Bilsborough warned pizza should still be considered a treat.
