InfoFranchise.co.uk:

Franchising in Austria starts developing at the end of ’80s. The system has exponentially grew up until 2002: the number of franchisors has changed from 45 to 330 as well as that of franchisees, which has changed from 500 to 4700.

The franchise economy in Austria counts about 60.000 employees. The driving sectors are the retailing, services and manufactures.

The Austrian jurisprudence has never developed a specific law to impact franchise: the sector is regulated by the commercial rules in force as well as by the international law concerning this formula. And, starting by the 1st May 2006, franchising agreements are not invoked anymore for recording to the Antitrust.

Franchise in Austria can trust in the Österreichischer Franchise-Verband (ÖFV), founded in 1986 as required by the European Franchise Federation.
