QSR Brands Bhd, a fast food chain operator, may make a fresh bid for more shares of KFC Holdings Bhd and this time it could take the restaurant operator private, bankers involved in the deal said yesterday.

Bankers who spoke on condition of anonymity said they were asked to work on several plans on how best to resolve the current stalemate.QSR had triggered an automatic offer for the rest of KFC when it raised its stake to more than a third in September last year. That offer hinged on it getting more than 50 per cent of KFC.

However, the offer failed because the offer price, at RM4.94 apiece, was lower than the market price. KFC closed 2.3 per cent down to RM6.40 yesterday.

QSR holds 42.89 per cent of KFC as at April 23 this year, making it an associate and not a subsidiary firm.

Among the options discussed are an outright cash offer, or a share swap involving QSR and KFC shares, the bankers said. But they cautioned that it does not mean an offer will be made as companies normally do this to weigh all available options.
